Preparation Laboratory
In our Preparation lab, pre-washed sediment core material is getting sieved for size fractionation. Afterwards, Forminifera species of interest are getting picked from the sample material under a binocular before being crushed. Subsequently, we are cleaning picked microfossils inside a clean bench using an ultrasonicator and a centrifuge.

Our preparation lab offers four workplaces with binoculars to be used simultaneously for picking sample material. Additionally, we have multiple workplaces for sieving sediment core material and a workplace for coral preparation work, including a drilling station.

Instrument Laboratories
In our Instrument lab, we are using two different communally shared mass spectrometers. Boron isotope analyses are getting performed using a ThermoScientific Neptune Plus Multicollector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (MC-ICP-MS). For trace element analyses, a ThermoScientific Element XR High Resolution Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (HR-ICP-MS) is being used.
