I measure a host of geochemical proxies on selected species of planktic and benthic foraminifera from different sites in the Southern Hemisphere. These measurements will help us understand global climate dynamics during the underexplored Oligocene epoch (c. 34 Ma to 23 Ma).
I hold a PhD in Earth Science from Cardiff University during which I made use of various techniques in to explore in detail the regional climate of the Central Mediterranean during the Miocene (23 to 6 Ma). This has included a combination of field sedimentology, bulk and foraminiferal stable isotope (δ18O and δ13C) stratigraphy and foraminiferal trace element records (Mg/Ca, B/Ca, Mn/Ca).
I have lengthy teaching experience in higher education at De La Salle College in Malta and at the University of Malta. This has included in-class and online teaching, laboratory teaching, field excursions and thesis supervision.

Dr. Karlos G. D. Kochhann
Postdoc Researcher
I hold a B.Sc. in Geology and M.Sc. in Sedimentary Geology (UNISINOS University, Brazil), as well as a PhD in Natural Sciences (Christian-Albrechts-University, Germany). I have been working on ocean-climate-carbon cycle variability over Cretaceous and Cenozoic, mostly Miocene, timescales.
In my research, I apply geochemical and micropaleontological (foraminifera) proxies, as well as Earth system models, to reconstruct past climate states.
